Squads 2002 |
A light hearted review of the Dukinfield Cricket Club First and Second Eleven Squads
1st XI Squad

Paul Turner (Professional, Captain) | Right hand Bat. Right arm off-spin.
Paul successfully juggles the roles of professional and captain and leads the team by example. You can read about Paul elsewhere as he has his own page dedicated to his skills and achievements. His nickname is Ten Bob - it's a long story why and we won't explain here. Pie mystery finally solved. |

Toby Rexstraw (Vice Captain) | Right hand bat.
Toby is the first team vice captain, and is the steadying influence at the top of the order. He is considered to be the best fielder and nicest bloke in the league. This year he represented the league side on two occasions, winning Man Of the Match on the first occasion. Surprisingly left out of the league side for the next match. His nickname is Shandy Pants, and he is rumoured to have once drunk 4 pints of lager in a single night. |

Dave Ashworth (Wicketkeeper) | Right Hand Bat. Wicketkeeper.
Dave is a steady top order batsmen with a positive mental attitude and analytical approach to the game. Dave is the current league team wicketkeeper on account of being the best in the league. His nickname is Ashy, he once hit a six in Liverpool. |

Dave Mayne | Right hand bat. Right arm (occasional) leg spin.
David has consistently been one of the most prolific batsmen in the league for 15 years. He can also be called upon as a part time bowler. His preferred nickname is Taz, but we still call him Mayney. According to some teams, his runs can be stemmed by placing a 7-2 leg-side field, but it has never worked so far! Collects baseball caps and bus tickets. |

Dave Gandy | Right hand bat.
David joined Dukinfield two years ago and is a technically correct top order batsmen who likes to play his strokes. Scores lots of runs. Due to his poor eyesight, it is rumoured that David uses Jedi powers to see the ball. Strangely started his playing career at Longsight. His nickname is DG and he's got a six pack. The Robin of the Dynamic Duo. (See Roger Mingham below). |

Andy Eastwood | Right hand bat. Right arm fast medium.
Andy opens the bowling and is recognised as one of the most consistent bowlers in the league. Andy hates to go for runs. Very useful middle order batsmen who plays his shots with much success. Described by the captain as Mr Dependable. Nickname is disappointingly Andy (he is an accountant). |

Simon Collins | Right hand bat. Right arm leg spin.
Simon is a useful middle order batsman and an excellent fielder. Does not get to bowl as often as he should, due to the embarrassment of riches in the spin bowling department. This Christmas starred as 'Dopey' at the Tameside Hippodrome. His nickname is Staggers. The Oliver Hardy of the Burke / Collins double act. |
![]() |
John Burke | Right hand bat.
John is a steady middle order batsman and an excellent fielder. Hopefully, he will finally retire now that we have won the league. His nickname is JB. The Stan Laurel of the Burke / Collins double act. |

Kamran Aziz | Right hand bat. Right arm fast.
Kamran joined Dukinfield five years ago. Kamran is a fast strike bowler and is respected as the most devastating lower order batsmen in the league, and probably hits the ball as far as any other batsman. A match winner. Nicknames include Kammy and Gadget (in respect of his Inspector Gadget-esque physique). |
| Where's he gone? | Shafiq Mohammed | Right hand bat. Right arm fast medium.
Last season was Shafiq's first at Dukinfield and was very successful. He opened the bowling with great accuracy and also made some big scores in the middle order. His nickname is Shaf and we hope to see him soon. |
![]() |
Roger Mingham | Right arm off spin.
Roger is an ex-Dukinfield professional, and has been the most consistent spin bowler in local league cricket for 30 years. Last season was his second season back at Dukinfield as an amateur. Last season Roger was a regular in the league side and bowled exceptionally. He also made his maiden half century (years, not runs). His nicknames are Emperor or Ming. The wise one. Been known to dress up in tights in his weekend role as Batman. |

Ian Ryder | Right arm fast.
Re-joined Dukinfield last season after a three year absence and was the final piece in the Championship winning jigsaw. Ian is a traditional fast bowler of the moody, sulking ilk and is genuinely quick on a hard surface. His nickname is EZ. |

Mike Eastwood | Scorer.
Father of Andy. Mike is respected as the best scorer in the league, and was honoured this season by the league. We think he scores to keep an eye on his son. It's Mr Eastwood to you. |
2nd XI Squad
| Andrew Day (Captain) | Right hand bat. A good tactician and all round nice bloke. Can bat a bit too! Admirably puts youth first during team selection. Always has cigarettes. | |
| Billy McEwan (Vice Captain) | Left hand bat. Prolific run scorer, but boring to watch. Counts his runs. Never buys cigarettes. | |
| Robert Pringle (Wicketkeeper) | Right Hand bat. Wicketkeeper. Junior, product of the youth policy - excellent prospect (if he keeps away from the booze and birds for the next couple of years). | |
| Stuart Dolan | Right hand bat. Last season was Stuarts first at Dukinfield, and he opened the batting successfully, scoring lots of runs. Stuart is an intelligent cricketer, who studies his game meticulously. Too new to the club to take the mick out of. | |
| Gary Finan | Right hand bat. Right arm slow/medium. Bowls dibbly dobblies. Takes lots of wickets. Scores loads of runs. Match winner. Likes to engage the opposition in stimulating conversation. | |
| Stephen Harlow | Right hand bat. Right arm Fast Medium. Now a young man, and an exceptional all-round cricketer. Well represented in the League Players Player of the Year Vote Last Year. Provides match day reading material. | |
| Chris Shaw | Right hand bat. Right arm fast medium. Another young man who is a talented cricketer. A bit of a playboy - one for the laydeeeeeeez. | |
| Adrian Davidson | Right hand bat. Right arm (occasional) off-spin. Very solid second team player who hits the ball hard. Dodgy knee means he cannot run. Talks a good one. | |
| Darren Cowling | Right hand bat. Exceptional batting technique. Excellent fielder. Unfortunately prefers golf. | |
| Mark Wood | Right hand bat. Right arm medium. Capable of turning a match around single-handedly. Once hit a single on 98 not out with two balls to spare so that 'the lad at the other end could get his fifty'. We don't understand either! | |
| Stephen Coulding, Jnr | Right hand bat. Right arm fast medium. Junior, another product of the youth policy with great prospects. Son of ex-second team captain of same name. Changes his football allegiance every two years. | |
| Duncan Summersgill | Right hand bat. Left arm pie thrower. Good in the field - in the side because he knows some juicy stuff about the captain. Likes to count the family jewels on the field of play. | |
| Peter Taylor | Right hand bat. Right arm medium. Very experienced and respected cricketer - the word Stalwart comes to mind. Hits the ball far, bowls a good away swinger. Recalls the same stories every year - and we still love hearing them. | |
| Mark Roberts | Right hand bat. Right arm medium. Another very promising junior with great prospects. Bowled very well in the second team last year. Represented Tameside at junior level last season and played in the final at Old Trafford. | |
| Timmy Knight | Left hand bat. (Sometimes) wicketkeeper. Good technique, should score more runs. Drinks far too much. | |
| Mark Harlow | Right hand bat. Big and strong, powerful hitter. Father of Stephen, and good to have around to keep the young rascal in check. | |
| Andy Harlow | Right arm quick. Right hand bat. Very Good bowler. Big hitter. Dodgy car salesman and occasional cricketer. Brother of Mark, completes the Harlow family trio (Think Curly, Larry, Moe). | |
| Mike Fardoe | Right hand bat. Another big hitter. Known as 'Big Mike'. | |
| Anton Morrissey | Right arm medium. Third Team captain. Second nicest bloke in the league after 1st Team Vice Captain. Used to have a very long pony tail - thankfully that has long gone and we no longer get accused of fielding the messiah. | |
| Matt Murphy | Right arm medium. Right hand bat. Matt is another junior who is breaking into the second team. A useful medium pace bowler, has good prospects. Apparently a straight A RE student. | |
| Richard Vidler | Scorer. Very pleasant young man. Keeps a clean book. Has a solid left jab and a good right uppercut (apparently). |
