Club Professional Paul Turner |
Paul "Ten Bob" Turner is the club professional and first-team captain of Dukinfield CC.
2002 will be Paul's fifth consecutive season as professional at Dukinfield CC.
As a batsman, Paul is a strong, attacking stroke-maker who can take any bowling attack to pieces single-handedly. He is equally accomplished at adopting a patient approach to building an innings when required. In 2001, he scored over 700 runs in the championship winning side.
As an off-spin bowler, he bowls an attacking line on and outside off-stump and forces the batsman to play at all times. He bowls to a very attacking field, which is reflected in his high return of victims. In 2001, he took a total of 70 wickets.
As a captain, Paul is exemplary and leads by example. Paul requested to be made First Team Captain, which shows his commitment and sense of responsibility. Paul demands that his team play the game sportingly, which is reflected in the fact that Dukinfield were awarded both the Sportsmans Trophy and Team of the Year Award.
Paul's methods of motivation are effective: "Win and I buy the round". 2001 was an expensive year!
Since signing Paul as professional in 1997, the cricketing fortunes of Dukinfield CC have changed immensely and the club have progressed every season; this is indicative of the changes that Paul has facilitated.
Paul originally played his junior cricket at Dukinfield CC, before he left at the age of eighteen to play for Stalybridge CC in the Cheshire County League. At Stalybridge, Paul developed his batting and off-spin and subsequently was chosen to represent Cheshire Seconds. Paul was a regular in the Cheshire Second Eleven for five years and captained the side.
This is the first time that Dukinfield CC have won the League Championship since winning the old First Division Championship in 1946. All the members and committee recognise the success that Paul has help to bring to Dukinfield Cricket Club.
Long may it continue.
Since winning the League Championship, we have all grown bored of seeing mug-shots of Paul's face in the local press, so we will spare you yet another picture!
